Amber Thread Author Services

Technical publishing help.
Your book stays yours.

Practical, paid assistance for independent authors preparing files, metadata, publishing accounts, proofs, and release steps. You remain the publisher and the owner at every stage.

A clear separation

Author services are not a publishing offer.

Paid author services

You hire Amber Thread for defined technical help with your independent release. The work is a service engagement, not a submission, acquisition, partnership, or promise of publication by Amber Thread Press.

Publishing by Amber Thread Press

Books published under the Amber Thread Press imprint follow a separate editorial and publishing decision. Purchasing author services does not place a manuscript under consideration or improve its prospects for publication by the press.

Your work remains yours.

Rights

You retain your copyright and publishing rights.

ISBNs

Your ISBNs remain registered and controlled by you or your chosen imprint.

Accounts

Your publishing and distribution accounts remain in your name and under your control.

Files and royalties

You keep your production files and receive royalties directly from the platforms you select.

Three bounded ways to work together

Choose the level of help you need.

Prices are not posted while we complete a careful assessment of labor and production costs. After the consultation, any proposed scope and fee will be stated before work begins.

A focused review

Launch Check

Best for: an author who has production files and a release plan, but wants a technical second set of eyes.

  • One book and up to two planned formats: ebook and/or print
  • Technical review of supplied interior and cover files
  • Metadata, ISBN, and account-readiness checklist
  • One written, prioritized issue list

Boundary: review and recommendations only. File repair, uploading, editing, design, and marketing are not included.

Files prepared for release

Publish Ready

Best for: an author who needs defined technical preparation before uploading.

  • Everything in Launch Check
  • One book, one ebook edition, and one print edition
  • Technical corrections to author-supplied interior files
  • Cover-specification and metadata checks
  • One consolidated author review round and final delivery checklist

Boundary: no developmental editing, copyediting, original cover art, platform uploading, or launch campaign.

Guidance through release

Guided Release

Best for: an author who wants company and technical guidance through the upload, proof, and release sequence.

  • Everything in Publish Ready
  • One book, one ebook edition, and one print edition
  • Scheduled step-by-step guidance in your own publishing accounts
  • Proof and retailer-listing review checklist
  • One post-upload technical issue list

Boundary: you enter credentials, approve metadata, and make every final publication decision. We do not take custody of your accounts or royalties, and we do not guarantee retailer approval or sales.

Across all packages: legal advice, rights clearance, tax advice, retailer guarantees, paid advertising, ghostwriting, and marketing campaigns are outside scope.

Firsthand, not hypothetical

Mail From Tomorrow

Amber Thread Press brought Mail From Tomorrow from manuscript files through ebook and print preparation, metadata, proofs, distribution, retailer listings, and post-release corrections. Author Services grows from that real, sometimes gloriously unglamorous work—not from invented credentials or a claim that every release follows the same path.

Frequently asked questions

Before you inquire.

Will Amber Thread Press publish my book?

No. Author Services is paid technical assistance for independent publishing. It is not a manuscript submission, publishing contract, co-publishing arrangement, or pathway to the Amber Thread Press list.

Am I still independently published?

Yes. You choose your imprint and platforms, retain your rights and files, control your ISBNs and publishing accounts, and receive royalties directly. Each retailer or distributor still applies its own terms and policies.

Do you work with AI-assisted manuscripts?

Potentially. We can discuss technical preparation for a manuscript that used AI-assisted tools, provided the author can accurately represent the work, owns or has permission to use every included element, and follows each platform’s current disclosure rules. We do not determine copyright ownership, provide legal advice, or guarantee that a retailer will accept a project.

Will my manuscript be kept confidential?

The initial inquiry does not request a manuscript upload. If we agree to work together, we will request only the files needed for the approved scope and limit access to that work. Please do not send confidential manuscript material through the inquiry form.

Who owns the manuscript, files, ISBNs, accounts, and royalties?

You do. Author Services does not transfer ownership to Amber Thread Press. You retain your rights, ISBN control, publishing accounts, source and production files, and royalties.

Is editing or book design included?

Not in these packages. Launch Check is a technical review; Publish Ready and Guided Release include only the technical preparation described above. Developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, original cover design, illustration, and marketing are outside scope.

Can you guarantee publication, retailer approval, or sales?

No. We can identify technical issues and help you follow a release process, but platforms control acceptance and availability, and readers control sales. No outcome or timeline is guaranteed.

Start with fit, not a sales pitch

Request a 15-minute publishing consultation.

Tell us where your book stands and what is getting in the way. We will use the consultation to determine whether one of these packages fits—not to pressure you into a service.

Please do not include manuscript text, passwords, payment information, tax information, or other sensitive material in this form.
